Introduction and School Overview

Between January 2022 and December 2025, Stanborough Primary School has moved with determination from a season of challenge into one of renewal and strengthened identity. Following a period of declining enrolment and post-pandemic fragility, leaders made a deliberate decision not simply to preserve the school, but to strengthen it. They believe deeply in its calling, in the power of Adventist education and in what this school can become. Christ has been intentionally placed at the centre of leadership, curriculum and culture. Strategic decisions have been shaped by eternal purpose rather than short-term survival. As a result, the school is growing not only in numbers and outcomes, but in spiritual clarity and confidence, shining as a light within its community and within the wider Seventh-day Adventist Church.

This quinquennium has seen safeguarding procedures strengthened and embedded with clarity and consistency. Academic standards continue to be above national expectations. Four baptisms during this reporting period reflect young lives choosing to follow Christ. Pupils confidently lead worship, ask thoughtful spiritual questions, and engage deeply in Bible study. Acts of service are practised daily, not occasionally. Faith is expressed in behaviour, compassion and character. The impact is evident in the way pupils speak, serve, and relate to one another.

Stanborough Primary School stands not simply as an institution, but as a beacon of light within the wider community. The progress is steady. The calling is clear. The purpose is eternal.

Strategic Targets and KPIs

At the start of this period, pupil numbers were declining. The impact of the pandemic affected finances and stability. The first objective was to improve the quality of provision, which in turn was hoped would halt the decline. The greater objective was to move forwards with conviction.

Strategic priorities aligned with the BUC mission: spiritual vitality, educational excellence, safeguarding integrity and sustainable growth.

Since 2022, enrolment has risen from 52 pupils to 63, with a steady upward trend and a full Early Years provision supported by a waiting list. Attendance remains consistently strong. Pupils want to be present – arriving with joy and leaving with stories to tell. School is not experienced as a separate institution, but as an extension of home and church. Within its walls, children are known, loved and nurtured. They are cared for with intention and guided with prayer. This sense of belonging strengthens commitment, shapes character, and creates a community where faith and learning flourish together.

In July 2024, Ofsted judged the school Good overall, with Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development judged Outstanding. Inspectors recognised that leaders had been making the right changes and keeping pupils’ wellbeing at the heart of their work.

Pupils achieve very well and are suitably prepared for the academic rigour of secondary school life. They are described as resilient, motivated learners who live out the school values in their daily interactions in letting their light shine. The school has not merely stabilised. It has moved forwards mightily.

Target Assessment and Lessons Learnt

While growth has been steady, financial breakeven has not yet been fully secured. In a small school, modest fluctuations in numbers carry significant impact. Financial sustainability remains a strategic focus.

Post-pandemic recovery revealed gaps in writing stamina and confidence. Targeted interventions and curriculum refinement have strengthened provision. Writing progression remains a continued priority.

The lesson throughout this journey has been clear. A strong ethos alone is not enough. Quality of provision must continually improve. The school must consistently meet the evolving academic, emotional and spiritual needs of its pupils with increasing precision. Excellence requires reflection, adaptation and courage to refine practice where necessary.

Guided by the educational philosophy of Ellen G. White, the school continues to pursue the harmonious development of the physical, mental and spiritual powers. This remains the compass for every strategic decision.

Achievements and Impact

Spiritual life is intentional and visible. Four baptisms between 2022 and 2025 reflect the fruit of deliberate discipleship. Weekly Bible studies with the chaplain, rooted in the Fundamental Beliefs, strengthen doctrinal understanding. Monthly assemblies at Stanborough Park Church reinforce the bond between the school and the congregation. Pastor Shepley’s ‘Open the Book’ assemblies, supported by volunteers and parents, demonstrate vibrant church partnership.

Faith Ambassadors have been introduced to nurture pupils with a heart for service and emerging ministerial gifts. Engagement with Adventurers and Pathfinders’ awards further strengthens unity between home, church and school.

Behaviour and attitudes are exemplary. Pupils demonstrate maturity, respect and resilience. Personal development is outstanding. Acts of service, leadership opportunities and reflective worship shape character daily.

The refurbishment of the playground has created intentional zones for purposeful play. Our Peace Garden continues to offer a space for prayer and reflection. The Daily Mile promotes health and wellbeing, affirming the Adventist commitment to whole-person development.

In 2024, the school achieved a prestigious Wellbeing Quality Mark, recognising its strong pastoral culture.

Stanborough Primary School shines because Christ is intentionally placed at the centre.

Challenges and Departmental Response

The response to challenges has been measured, intentional and firmly values-led. Safeguarding remains secure and vigilant. Academic standards remain high and continue to strengthen. The school’s spiritual identity has not been diluted or compromised in pursuit of growth. Instead, leaders have moved forwards with steady determination because growth has been a necessity, not a preference. There is clear understanding of the school’s capabilities, its calling and its responsibility to the church community.

Progress has not been rushed, but it has been purposeful. Faith has been accompanied by discipline. Vision has been supported by structure. Decisions have been prayerful, strategic and grounded in a commitment that neither mission nor integrity will be sacrificed.

Recommendations for the Next Quinquennium and Looking Ahead

The next quinquennium calls for structured expansion anchored firmly in mission.

Early Years will remain the primary enrolment pathway. Exploration of apprenticeship and staffing models will support capacity growth. Marketing must clearly articulate the school’s distinctive Adventist ethos, academic strength and holistic approach.

Curriculum priorities include strengthening writing progression and fully embedding recent curriculum developments. Leadership development and succession planning will ensure sustainability.

The school’s partnership with Stanborough Park Church should continue to deepen further. The school invites continued prayer, visible support and active engagement from the church community. Adventist education thrives when church and school walk closely together.

Members and leaders are warmly encouraged to visit. Come and see the classrooms. See the values in action. Witness pupils leading with compassion and confidence. Observe teachers modelling excellence with humility. Experience a school where every child is known, every voice is valued, and every lesson seeks to honour God.

Stanborough Primary School stands as a beacon of light: not perfect; not complacent – but prayerful, forward-thinking and dedicated in its commitment to educate for eternity.
